Support, Programs and Education

Epilepsy is a major health problem, affecting approximately 1 in 50 children and 1 in 100 adults. The Epilepsy Alliance of Orange County, a project of Community Partners, would like you to know we are here to help. Our programs are listed below. Programs For Parents in English:
Epilepsy 101 – Learn the basics about epilepsy in an easy to understand one-hour presentation. Fourth Friday of every month, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at Irvine United Congregational Church, 4915 Alton Parkway, Irvine. Please call Janna Moore for more information at (714) 557-0202 . Childcare available upon request.

Coping Skills for Parents of Children with Epilepsy This is an interactive psycho-educational/support group, facilitated by a licensed psychologist, which focuses on small group discussions addressing epilepsy issues suggested by group members. Fourth Friday of every month, 6:00 pm-7:00 pm, at Irvine United Congregational Church, 4915 Alton Parkway, Irvine.

Central Orange County Parent Education Night – An educational support group for parents of children suffering from epilepsy/seizure disorders. Not only does this group provide great support from other parents who understand the challenges of raising a child with epilepsy, it brings in experts in the field of epilepsy to speak on critical issues affecting your child. These parents willingly share a wealth of information to help ensure better care for your child. Fourth Friday of every month, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm, at Irvine United Congregational Church, 4915 Alton Parkway, Irvine. Free childcare and activities for children, including music therapy and social skills.

North Orange County Parent Education Night – An educational support group for parents of children suffering from epilepsy/seizure disorders. Not only does this group provide great support from other parents who understand the challenges of raising a child with epilepsy, it brings in experts in the field of epilepsy to speak on critical issues affecting your child. These parents willingly share a wealth of information to help ensure better care for your child. Second Friday of every month, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm, at Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California (RIO – Fullerton), 130 Laguna Rd., Fullerton 92835. Free childcare and activities for children.

On-Line Support Group – Epilepsy Alliance of Orange County Family Support Network is an on-line support group for parents of children with epilepsy. Obtain support and information by sending and receiving posts from other parents of children with epilepsy. Call the EAOC for information about joining this group.

Adult Education/Support Group – A social/educational support group for adults with epilepsy. Meet other adults with similar concerns and issues in a comfortable and supportive environment. Learn from our guest speakers who are leading experts in fields related to life with epilepsy. Third Friday of every month, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm, at UCI Medical Center, Neuropsychiatric Center, Room 101, 101 The City Drive-South, Orange.

Adult and Adolescent Therapy Group at the Epilepsy Center at Hoag Hospital – This is an interactive support group facilitated by a licensed therapist who leads small group discussions addressing epilepsy issues suggested by the group members. First Wednesday of every month, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at the Hoag Cancer Center Conference Room A, Hoag Hospital, 1 Hoag Drive, Newport Beach. (In collaboration with Hoag Hospital)

Family Member Support Group - While the adolescent or adult affected by epilepsy attends the support group above, family members are invited to meet in a separate room to discuss how epilepsy impacts the family. First Wednesday of every month, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at the Hoag Cancer Center lobby, Hoag Hospital, 1 Hoag Drive, Newport Beach

Programs In Spanish:
Clase de Epilepsia – Les invitamos a una presentación de una hora sobre lo que es epilepsia, explicada en conceptos fáciles de entender. La clase se reune el primer viernes de cada mes, 6 p.m. a 7 p.m., en CHOC – Hospital de Niños, Condado de Orange, 2o Piso, Sala de Conferencia A, 455 S. Main St., Orange.

Grupo de Apoyo para Padres – Un grupo de apoyo para los padres de niños con epilepsia. Somos padres tendiendo la mano a otros padres. Generalmente tenemos invitados, expertos en los diferentes campos relacionados con epilepsia, que se encargan de compartir con nosotros los ultimos avances en el tratamiento de epilepsia. Este grupo se reune el primer viernes de cada mes, 7 p.m. a 8:30 p.m., en CHOC – Hospital de Niños, Condado de Orange, 2o Piso, Sala de Conferencia A & B, 455 S. Main St., Orange. Cuidado de niños es gratis.
